Garrett Crochet and Boston Red Sox Agree on Contract Extension; 6 years $170M
Breaking News per Jeff Passan of ESPN, The Boston Red Sox and Garrett Crochet have come to terms on a six-year, 160 million dollar extension. The Red Sox traded for Crochet this offseason, and an extension before the end of the season didn't look promising. Crochet even went to lengths before the MLB's Opening Day, to say that the talks would be "tabled" in order to focus on the season.
BREAKING: Left-hander Garrett Crochet and the Boston Red Sox are in agreement on a six-year, $170 million contract extension, sources tell ESPN. The deal starts in 2026 and includes an opt-out after 2030. By far the largest deal ever for a pitcher with 4+ years of service.

According to Passan, the deal starts in 2026, and has an opt-out in 2030 (Crochet will be thirty-one years old). He also reported that this marks the largest deal for a pitcher with four plus years of service, previously held by Jacob deGrom at four years, 137.5 million dollars.
This is big news, given most Red Sox fans would admit they paid a hefty price for the star pitcher, having traded one of their best prospects, but that's the market for a player like Crochet. Not to mention the amount of negative publicity this team has faced with their poor start to the year. This is good news and hopefully provides a little spark to get the season going.
