Fan Stat of the Week

Tree Ring Quotient (TRQ). Veteran Sox fans get a new layer of cynicism every year. These fans see 2004 and 2007 as anomalies and believe the Sox are gradually returning to their historical pattern of flatlining in August. Fans with high TRQ are prone to yell, “Freddy woulda had that!” if the center fielder fails to reach – well – anything, but especially a ball hit to the Triangle of Death in dead center. Leaders in this category will yell, “Bring in the Steamer!” if the Orioles get two men on base in the fifth inning of a game in April.
