Game 120 - Red Sox 3, Tampa Bay 1

Jacoby Ellsbury's 21st home run of the season provided all the offense Red Sox starter Jon Lester would need in Boston's 3-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays in the first game of a day/night doubleheader at Fenway Park. For Ellsbury, his MVP-caliber performance this season continues to put 2010 in the rearview mirror. Lester pitched 7 innings and allowed just 3 hits and a walk while striking out 8. His record improved to 12-6.

Rays starter James Shields was equally impressive. He went the distance allowing just 3 hits himself, with the Ellsbury home run being the deciding factor.

NOTES - Jonathan Papelbon picked up his 28th save of the season. Daniel Bard pitched a perfect 8th inning.

The Red Sox came into the game having dropped 3 of their last 4 games.

David Ortiz was in the original starting lineup but was scratched due to illness. Jed Lowrie was the DH.
