I'll never understand baseball contracts, and I'm not convinced it's worth trying.
And to clarify ---- ???????? Who comes up with this stuff?
May 1 (one month into the season, more or less) probably seemed reasonable at the time, and I can understand the deference given to the experienced Cook. But it would be easier if the Sox rotation were more fixed. There's nothing to lose, I suppose, with bringing him up, but the clock on the decision makes it feel rushed.

Veteran Aaron Cook ... can declare free agency Tuesday if he is not in the majors.
