Lester Outdoes Peavy As Sox Win 6th Straight

Finally! Jon Lester's first win of the 2012 season is in the books. Lester pitched 7 shutout innings allowing 5 hits and a walk while striking out 7 as the Red Sox upped their winning streak to 6 with a 1-0 victory over the White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field.

Chicago starter Jake Peavy was the hard-luck loser; he gave up an RBI single to Adrian Gonzalez in the top of the 4th inning for the game's lone run. He only allowed 4 hits over his 9 innings of work while striking out 6 and walking 1.

The Red Sox bullpen came up big with Franklin Morales and Vicente Padilla in the 8th and Alfredo Aceves closing things out in the 9th for his 5th save of the season.

NOTES - The Red Sox close out the series with the White Sox and the road trip tomorrow afternoon.

Red Sox pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka made his 2nd rehab start with AA Portland Saturday afternoon going 4.2 innings, allowing 1 run on 3 hits with 2 walks and 7 strikeouts. He threw 74 pitches, 44 strikes and had good velocity, topping out at 93 mph. The team expects Matsuzaka to make 3 more rehab starts before rejoining the team.
