Red Sox sign Lyle Overbay to a minor league contract
The Red Sox have signed Lyle Overbay to a minor league contract and extended him an invitation to spring training. The contract includes a clause that allows Overbay to opt out of his minor league deal with the Sox if he does not make the team roster coming out of spring training.
Overbay signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks on August 13, 2011 to replace the injured Xavier Nady. He then signed a one-year deal with the Diamondbacks in December of 2011. On July 30th, 2012 Overbay was designated for assignment and then released August 3rd.
On August 20th the Braves signed Overbay to a minor league deal only to call the first baseman up on September 1st when the rosters expanded
He finished the 2012 season with 12 runs, 2 home runs and 10 RBI.
