3 Stars of the game: Game 6

The Boston Red Sox finished up their season opening 6 game road trip with a huge 13-0 win over Toronto on Sunday afternoon. The team jumped all over last seasons NL Cy Young winner, R.A. Dickey with 5 runs in the first inning and the runs snowballed from there. While it is fantastic for the team to play this well together it makes my job to pick 3 stars of the game very difficult, 2 of them are easy to pick because of their fantastic performances but there are 4-5 other members of the team that could make a fair argument for taking the 3rd Star of the game. I looked at the box score and watched the entire game but and I think that I've made the best possible decision for the 3 stars of the game.
Star 3: Mike Napoli
If Napoli had a the stat line he had today he would have been the 1st star of the game but because of the fantastic performances by others. Napoli went 2-5 with 4 RBI's and 2 runs scored. Napoli was also the most patient member of the team seeing 25 pitches and striking out only once.
Star 2: Jon Lester
Lester was fantastic today, he looked like a potential Cy Young candidate with todays outing. Lester threw 7 shutout innings giving up only 5 hits. He struck out 6 Blue Jays, threw exactly 100 pitches, 67 of them for strikes. Lester faced 27 batters and threw a first pitch strikes to 13 of these batters.
Star 1: Will Middlebrooks
What a day by Will Middlebrooks, he was absolutely FANTASTIC!He tied the Red Sox record of 3 home runs in a game, and had 14 total bases. Middlebrooks went 4-5 with 4 RBI's and 4 runs scored. In his fifth at bat he hit a long warning track fly ball that gave many people hope that he was going to hit 4 home runs but the ball ended up falling about 10 feet short of the fence. Middlebrooks had an amazing game today and will hopefully be able to reproduce this amazing game multiple times this season.
