John Lackey's headed to the DL

Well that didn't take very long at all as ESPNBoston.com is reporting that the Red Sox placed starting pitcher John Lackey on the disabled list retroactive to April 7th. That will allow Lackey to return to the Red Sox roster on April 22nd and hopefully resume his role within the rotation.

Lackey was injured during his first start of the season against Toronto on Saturday. It was also Lackey's first start since undergoing Tommy John surgery. Lackey had an MRI on his right bicep which revealed no tear within the muscle - great news if your the Red Sox and Lackey moving forward.

Alfredo Aceves will take over the starting duties for Lackey while he's on the disabled list. Aceves, who's been a lightening rod of controversy during spring training and the World Baseball Classic, will get his opportunity to start on Thursday against Baltimore.
