The Red Sox were powered by both early and late runs and again great starting pitching by Clay Buchholz in their last game against the Chicago White Sox. Buchholz finally improved to 7-0 a mark that he was trying to achieve in his previous 3 starts. The win was extremely important last night because it moved the Red Sox to only 1/2 a game behind the Yankees for first place in the AL East. Here are the 3 stars of the game:
Star 3: Daniel Nava
Nava provided more insurance runs in the 9th inning of last nights game with a single plating 2. He went 1-4 on the night with 2 RBI's. He saw 23 pitches, striking out twice and walking once. His 2 RBI night brought his season total up to 29.
Star 2: David Ortiz
Ortiz quickly got the team going, with a 2 RBI single in the first inning. he went 2-5 last night with 2 RBI's and 1 run scored. He saw 19 pitches in his 5 at bats but did not strike out or walk. His 2 RBI night brought his season total to 31.
Star 1: Clay Buchholz
Finally Buchholz got the run support needed to improve to 7-0 on the season. He pitched 7 innings giving up 5 hits and 1 run. He threw 113 pitches striking out 4 and walking 3. It must have seemed like he was going to be 6-0 all season the way the team was giving Buchholz run support but he finally got the runs he needed and then he did the rest.
The Red Sox got a much needed win in Chicago, getting swept there would have been very bad. The team now returns home to face the Cleveland Indians who are managed by former Red Sox manager Terry Francona. What do you think the team needs to do tonight to get a win over the Indians?
