With Allen Webster in Pawtucket and out of the rotation, Brandon Workman will get the start in Sunday’s game at Oakland, according to the Boston Globe. This will be the 24-year-old righthander’s first major league start.
Workman made his major league debut Wednesday against Seattle. He threw two innings of relief, throwing 47 pitches, allowing three runs on four hits, and striking out four.
Though it wasn’t the best outing, Workman still has the potential to be solid. Between Portland and Pawtucket, he was 8-2 in 17 appearances with a 3.21 ERA. Sixteen of those appearances were starts.
Workman will face off against A’s All-Star Bartolo Colon.
