The Red Sox are reportedly interested in veteran right-handed pitcher Tim Hudson, according to Yahoo Sports. According to Yahoo, there is a mutual interest and that Hudson reportedly "wants a ring." On the flipside of that, Hudson is 38 and was carted off Citi Field with a brutal ankle injury sustained in a game against the New York Mets. And the Red Sox already have 6, count'em 6, starting pitchers, so do they really need Hudson?

Hudson is a good starting pitcher and he might give us flexibility to use some of our other starters in a trade to fill in other gaps that may be left by getting rid of players like Stephen Drew or Jacoby Ellsbury.

Hudson's numbers are solid through 9 years with Atlanta and 6 with Oakland. He's got a 3.44 career ERA, 25 total complete games, 1896 strikeouts in nearly 3,000 innings pitched, according to Baseball Reference. He's a a great career, but the risks might be to great.

There are worse things we could do than picking up Tim Hudson, but do we need him? We've already got 6 starters on the roster, but do we need a 7th? Let me know on Twitter (@ConorJF1016) or leave a comment.
