Cole Figueroa's double in the bottom of the 9th inning off Boston reliever Burke Badenhop pushed the Tampa Bay Rays past the Red Sox 1-0 at Tropicana Field. Andrew Miller took the loss; for Figueroa it was just his second Major League hit.
Boston starter John Lackey probably deserved better from his teammates who have now dropped 8 straight games. He shut the Rays down for 7 innings allowing just 5 hits and a walk while striking out 3.
Boston managed just 5 hits and left a combined 14 runners on base. Rays starter Chris Archer limited the Red Sox to 4 hits in his 6 innings of work. He struck out 11.
Shane Victorino aggravated his right hamstring in the top of the 9th inning and had to be removed from the game; he will be examined prior to Saturday's game.
