Recap - Sox fall to Pirates in series opener

The Red Sox suffered their fifteenth shutout of the 2014 as they were beaten by the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-0 at PNC Park.

Pittsburgh took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on a two-run home run by Russell Martin off Boston starter Anthony Ranaudo. They added single runs in the sixth and seventh.

Ranaudo took the loss going 5.2 innings, charged with three runs on four hits. He walked two and struck out two as his record fell to 3-3.

The Red Sox had seven hits, five of which were doubles. Xander Bogaerts led the team with two hits.
