The Kansas City Royals tagged Boston starter Matt Barnes for a pair of runs in the first inning as the Red Sox fell to KC 6-3 at Fenway Park.
Barnes (pictured) pitched one out into the sixth inning and was charge with five runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out two. He allowed a home run to Salvador Perez with two on in the sixth to give the Royals some insurance.
The Red Sox scored single runs in the sixth and seventh on an RBI ground out by Travis Shaw and a Mookie Betts solo home run, his eleventh of the season. Xander Bogaert had an RBI single in the ninth.
David Ortiz led Boston with two hits.
