Recap - Bullpen Implosion Costs Sox Against Yanks

The Yankees sent ten men to the plate in the bottom of the eighth inning, scoring five times off the Red Sox bullpen as Boston lost game one of their weekend series with New York 5-4.

Hanley Ramirez homered in the top of the first inning to give the Red Sox an early 2-0 lead. Andrew Benintendi made it 3-0 with a line drive into the upper deck in right in the top of the fifth.

Eduardo Rodriguez (pictured) shut the Yankees down on two hits and a pair of walks over six innings. He struck out seven in the no-decision outing.

Matt Barnes pitched a scoreless seventh inning despite a leadoff walk.

Addison Reed started off the eighth by hitting Brett Gardner and then serving up a home run ball to Aaron Hicks. He took the loss while Joe Kelly was charged with a blown save..

Boston loaded the bases on three consecutive walks by Aroldis Chapman in the top of the ninth but could only manage a single run on a sacrifice fly by Benintendi.
