Five solid innings from starting pitcher Martin Perez, and home runs from Alex Verdugo and Michael Chavis, combined to deliver a 5-0 win for the Red Sox over the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field.
Perez scattered four hits and walked three in the shutout effort before giving way to the bullpen which saw four relievers each toss a hitless inning in the win.
Verdugo's home run was his first for Boston; it was Chavis's second of the year. Chavis had three hits in the win to lead Boston while Xander Bogaerts added two.
The win broke a four-game losing streak for Boston.
