OK, One More Time
It may seem like I'm grinding an axe for Tim Wakefield. Well I am -- but not for Wakefield per se so much as the notion that a guy who wants to play who can still be useful is valuable.
We know that there are open slots on the roster, and we know that the Sox have placed a couple of long bets.
In that environment, why not give Wake a shot? Maybe the question answers itself; it's easier to say goodbye now than to make him try out if you think the end result will be the same.
Maybe Wakefield squashed his chances by taking too long to get to 200 wins, but he came damn close more than once during that trek.
Like I said, I like the strategy, and I support it. But to me a guy who's been here deserves a shot. It also goes without saying that Ben Cherington knows more than I do, so maybe he knows that Wake is done. If that's the case, I hope Wake knows it too.
