The Red Sox announced on Wednesday afternoon that second baseman Dustin Pedroia will have season-ending surgery on his left hand.
The surgery will be performed on Thursday in Boston by Dr. Matthew Leibman.
Pedroia has been plagued with hand and thumb issues for the past couple of seasons. The hope is that by having the surgery now, before the end of the regular season, Pedroia will be ready by the start of spring training next year.
Pedroia will end the season hitting .278 with 7 home runs, 33 doubles, 53 RBI's and a .712 OPS.
