Just when you had probably thrown the TV remote in disgust after Oakland put up four runs in the top of the second inning....

The Red Sox rallied for six runs in the bottom of the third inning and the bullpen provided 4.1 innings of shutout relief as Boston beat the Athletics 9-4 at Fenway Park on Monday night.

Mookie Betts led a 12-hit Boston attack with three singles and rookie Michael Chavis (pictured) drove in a game-high three runs with a pair of RBI singles.

Xander Bogaerts and Rafael Devers each had two hits and J.D. Martinez drove in a pair of runs.

Eduardo Rodriguez started for the Red Sox, going 4.2 innings for the no-decision. He allowed all four Oakland runs on seven hits and a pair of walks while striking out seven.
